The human body is an elegant design that is intended to work in perfect harmony. You may be aware of the anatomical structures, such as bones, blood vessels, nerves, muscle, connective tissue, and blood, but there is much more to the way that the body works. Flowing throughout your body via the bloodstream are nutrients, oxygen, and hormones that regulate the way that your body functions each day. Any disruption to the delicate balance can throw the entire system off and make you feel sluggish or trigger unwanted physical problems. At Doctors Best Wellness Center®, we work with men and women who suffer from a variety of symptoms that are linked to hormone imbalances.

What are Hormones Exactly?

Hormones are types of molecules that are produced by glands to carry signals from one part of the body to another. As part of the human endocrine system, hormones regulate physical functions, as well as your behavior and mood. When one of your glands releases hormones into your blood, they travel through the blood and bind with a specific type of tissue. After binding, the hormone sends a signal to the tissue and causes some type of action, such as the production of energy or release of sugar into the blood. Most hormones are designed to work only with certain types of tissue, such as the thyroid or pancreas.

The Effects of Hormone Imbalances

Although the body is designed to maintain a healthy hormone balance, certain factors may disrupt the balance. The imbalance may cause hormones to work against each other and be counterproductive to your physical health and emotional well-being, or you may develop certain medical conditions, such as adrenal fatigue. Some of the most common signs of hormone imbalance in men and women are:

  • Weight gain or loss
  • Anxiety and other mood disorders
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Thirst
  • Rashes, dryness and other skin conditions
  • Changes to the bone, such as weakness or brittleness
  • Problems sleeping
  • Poor libido
  • Changes to appetite and hunger
  • Increased or decreased heart rate
  • Vision problems

Many of these symptoms may indicate other medical issues that should be ruled out or managed first.

Hormone Replacement Therapy

If you have discussed your symptoms with a primary care physician or specialist and found no underlying medical condition, you may be a good candidate for our hormone replacement therapy program. Hormone imbalances are typically diagnosed through bloodwork and based on the findings, we determine what hormones are needed, as well as the appropriate dosage for your unique needs.
